Long Beach, CA 11/7/2008

The action in opposition to Prop 8 that took place in Long Beach, California went much smoother than the Hollywood action the night before. There were multiple protests across the state and a few that took place in other states as well, including Salt Lake City where a group of about 2000 people took to the streets in front of the Mormon Tabernacle. There weren't any altercations that I'm aware of at the Long Beach protest that we attended and there was more of a community spirit, as well as a strong desire to make a statement and a concerted effort to be a part of a peaceful action. All in all a very good night and we even managed to fit in a little bit of fun too which probably explains why my head is a little fuzzy today.

Prop 8 Protest - this is not over.

Last night the protests against the passing of Proposition 8 continued all over Southern California. I attended the one that took place at the Mormon Tabernacle - this church was targeted specifically because of the 15 million dollars that they donated to the "Yes on 8" campaign, not because of their religion or their belief system.

At one point a group of representatives from the church arrived to clean up the front of the church, but as a group of 10 "No on 8" protesters walked by they began shouting names and behaving aggressively. When the "No on 8" protesters tried to talk to them a  group of 3 young Mormon women attacked on of our "No" representatives and punched her in the face. At this point all hell broke loose and there was pushing, yelling and a few more punches thrown.

That's when the riot police were called:

Ambulances took the injured away and the crowd of "No" protesters began to request a redress of the greivances from the police. - our heroes the LAPD. New York has public servants that run into collapsing buildings and we have public servants that shoot 8 year olds and allow hate crimes to take place in front of them and take no action. Our people were taken away in ambulances....and theirs drove away in SUV's.

Yep...I finally left lurkdom and jumped the broom into LJ.

So, I recently got a new Canon 40D with a 28-135mm and a 70-300 lense, so I decided to create a photo blog. Well, mostly a photo blog, but I can't say that nothing else will ever end up on here. I have been known to share my opinion when it comes to politics, art, & bad television. I'd hate to lie to you so soon since we just met and I'd like to think that I'm the kind of person that generally avoids starting out new relationships with lies, unless I'm at The Abbey and there's a mojito involved and if you're one of those girls...sorry 'bout that, but we had so much fun didn't we! :-p

Anyhoo - so what does a girl do when she gets a bright shiny new camera? She grabs her surfboard and goes to the beach.

Here's a few from 11/2/2008 - the day I brought the camera home!
